Welcome June, and 200 followers

Another month gone. May wasn't a very good month for me. A lot of worries and bad news that left me with little time or inspiration to write in this blog, however, the momentous 200 followers mark has been reached. Hooray!

Never thought I'd be still blogging after two months, I sort of lose interest in things rather quickly, but it's been fun. Now, on to some topical news!

Are you afraid of cell phones poisoning your ear with radiation? Do you wear a tinfoil cap? Are you just curious?
Past tuesday the World Health Organization (WHO) classified cell phones as potentially carcinogenic to humans - more specifically the radiation they emit, strongest when making contact with the cell antennas, making or receiving a call, navigating the internet, sending texts.
They measure the amount of energy traveling through  your body in watts per kilogram (W/Kg) and for a phone to be used in the United States, for example, this value has to be below 1.6 W/Kg.

So here's a list of the top ten least/most harmful ones, at least in theory, at sale today.

The least:

1. LG Quantum (AT&T): 0.35 watts per kilogram
2. Casio EXILIM (Verizon Wireless): 0.53 W/kg
3. Pantech Breeze II (AT&T, AT&T GoPhone): 0.55 W/kg
4. Sanyo Katana II (Kajeet): 0.55 W/kg
5. Samsung Fascinate (Verizon Wireless): 0.57 W/kg
6. Samsung Mesmerize (CellularONE, U.S. Cellular): 0.57 W/kg
7. Samsung SGH-a197 (AT&T GoPhone): 0.59 W/kg
8. Samsung Contour (MetroPCS): 0.60 W/kg
9. Samsung Gravity T (T-Mobile): 0.62 W/kg
10. (tie) Motorola i890 (Sprint); Samsung SGH-T249 (T-Mobile): 0.63 W/kg

The most:

1. Motorola Bravo (AT&T): 1.59 W/kg
2. Motorola Droid 2 (Verizon Wireless): 1.58 W/kg
3. Palm Pixi (Sprint): 1.56 W/kg
4. Motorola Boost (Boost Mobile): 1.55 W/kg
5. Blackberry Bold (AT&T, T-Mobile): 1.55 W/kg
6. Motorola i335 (Sprint): 1.55 W/kg
7. HTC Magic (T-Mobile): 1.55 W/kg
8. Motorola W385 (Boost Mobile, U.S. Cellular, Verizon Wireless): 1.54 W/kg
9. Motorola Boost i290 (Boost Mobile): 1.54 W/kg
10. (tie) Motorola DEFY (T-Mobile); Motorola Quantico (U.S. Cellular, MetroPCS); Motorola Charm (T-Mobile): 1.53 W/kg

So we can conclude that Samsung is trying to save us all, and Motorola are a bunch of serial killers. The end.

Ok in all seriousness, is this worrying?  Cell phones being harmful is not a new idea out there, but now it's backed up by the WHO, is it time we start being concerned?
I remember times when cellphones were actually so powerful that if you carried one with you in your car, and drove past someone who had one in theirs as well, you'd hear all kind of beep-boop-beepbeep interference on your stereo. Certainly the levels have gone down a lot since then.
What we need now is proper research to tell us if those 1.6 W/Kg are still too much for our general health.

Are you concerned about your cellphone slowly killing you?
